The range of Soladrill seed drills offered by KRM Ltd, of Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, has been extended by the introduction of a new model. The Soladrill 1706 is designed to become an integral part of the cultivation implement to give a compact one-pass seedbed preparation and sowing unit.
Three models of the Soladrill 1706 are available in working widths of 3.0m, 3.5m and 4.0m to match tramline requirements and tractor size. The central seed hopper has a capacity of 1,200 litres, a weatherproof lid and includes a screen to protect from accidental blockages from labels or other foreign objects.
KRM’s exclusive Elite tine coulters are fitted to the Soladrill 1706 at 125mm row spacings. They are mounted in three rows to give a large stagger and allow the free-flow of residue to minimise blockage risk in min-till or cloddy, stony seedbeds. The tip of each coulter sows seed in a 30mm band for increased effective seed spacing in the row, and the units are inexpensive to reduce operating costs.
The Elite tine coulters are of equal length for even pressure and positive depth control over the full working width. Each Elite coulter spring is mounted at a shallow angle so that for any vertical movement of the coulter, the spring moves a correspondingly small amount for more even pressure and accuracy of sowing depth as the coulters follow ground contours. The overall sowing depth is set by a central adjuster, working through a parallel linkage.
A high speed air stream carries the seed from the distribution unit to each coulter. This is provided by a 1,000rpm PTO-driven fan on the standard Soladrill 1706, or by an optional hydraulic drive fan. Capable of sowing most seeds from grass and rape to peas and beans, at rates from 2-400kg/ha, the seed mechanism is driven by a side-mounted landwheel. A fan inlet filter protects the fan from blockage in dusty conditions.
Standard equipment includes Solatronic in-cab control of the tramline sequence, with area recording and monitoring of forward speed, fan speed and hopper low seed level. Seed is returned to the hopper to prevent waste when the tramline rows shut off. Large 400mm diameter disc markers provide a clear mark for accurate bout matching in difficult seedbeds.
Prices for the new KRM Soladrill 1706, which is available for immediate delivery, start at £ 12,995 for the 3m model.
