Chafer Machinery has launched a more user friendly and sophisticated adaptation of its Streambar system for liquid fertiliser application.
The new Streambar MR (MultiRate), which was on show at Lamma 2009, includes an easy to use integrated metering mechanism that speeds up changing rates and also widens the range of application rates.
Another advantage of the new design is that it does not require an adaptor when used on a conventional EF3 nozzle body ensuring the system can be used on most types of sprayer. The overall design of the Streambar MR compared to the original system, which included a metering orifice and adaptor, is far more compact minimising potential breakages while spraying or travelling on the road.
Initially the Streambar MR will be available to suit a sprayer with jet spacings of 50cm. This will be followed shortly by a 33cm version.
“Our original Streambar is still an extremely accurate application method for liquid fertiliser, but with larger and more sophisticated spraying equipment on the market the new Streambar MR will fit well with the new generation of sprayers,” said Chafer commercial manager Rob Starkey.
“Applying liquid fertiliser through a Streambar MR guarantees application accuracy across the boom and also minimises the risk of crop scorch due to the creation of larger fertiliser droplets compared to an umbrella style fertiliser cap.
“Application accuracy is unaffected by boom height and each of the four Streambar MR ports is fed independently, ensuring even application across the bar.”
The old Streambar design required the use of several colour coded metering restrictors while the new Streambar MR features a sliding metering unit with six different rate settings. Instead of removing the bar and changing a colour coded restrictor, which was a time consuming and fiddly job, a simple sliding mechanism is used to change the rate. Depending on forward speed and pressure, rates of up to 1,200 lit/ha are achievable.
“This metering unit makes changing rate quick and easy and the range of application rates available has also increased considerably, reducing the need for the customer to move to a spray line with third meter jet spacing when applying very high fertiliser application rates,” said Mr Starkey.
