Berthoud: High-tech Raptor sprayer launched

Berthoud new self-propelled Raptor sprayer was launched at Lamma 2009.

The company’s engineers have combined successful features from the Boxer model with new elements from the award-winning Tenor trailed range in a striking new design.

The Raptor’s high clearance and smooth underbelly design incorporates an active air suspension system on both front and rear axles for excellent stability. The rear axle has a triangular design using a forward pivot for impressive maneuverability.

The larger, air-conditioned cab offers good all-round visibility and a rear-hinged door for improved sealing and minimal noise pollution. A pneumatic 180-degree swivel chair ensures operator comfort.

Dualmatic operating controls simplify and reduce both pipe work and chemical residues. Dualelec intelligent, electronic controls are offered as an in-cab option for rinsing and agitation. A high-output, low-maintenance Omega pump is fitted as standard, its twin turbines offering increased filling capacity and liquid fertiliser capability.

The outlet and drainage pipes, situated at the bottom of the diamond shaped chemical tank, minimise chemical residues at the end of operations. Storage compartments, chemical hopper and wash facilities are all concealed behind hinged side panels, so the Raptor complies with all current good working practices.

There are two new Raptor models with 3,200- or 4,200-litre tanks and booms from 24m (Axiale) up to 44m (Ektar) wide. Power comes from Deutz 180 or 200hp diesel engines offering three work and road speed ranges up to 40km/hr. Two Rexroth hydrostatic pumps drive four variable wheel motors. Hydro Pilot cruise control is fitted as standard, as is two-wheel, four-wheel and crab steering.

According to UK sales manager Martin Shackcloth, Berthoud’s Raptor is exactly what the UK market has been looking for: “It’s a robust machine that meets the needs of farmers and contractors and we are confident that it will prove popular in what is a very competitive market.”
