Holmer: Terra-Variant is the world’s biggest tractor

Spreading solids and injecting slurry with huge capacities and outputs are just two areas where the new Holmer Terra-Variant beats all competition. The Terra-Variant is the world’s biggest tractor in series production; a high-power multi-purpose transporter for slurry injection, fertiliser application, drilling, cultivating, lime spreading, muck and bio-solids spreading, crop collection and many other uses. Changing between most functions takes as little as 20 minutes.
Holmer has teamed up with German manufacturer Bergmann for solids spreading equipment. For the Terra-Variant, there’s a special Bergmann spreader offering a class-leading 26 cubic metre capacity. Top-quality components and materials are used throughout the machine to ensure best possible reliability.
The twin-disc spreader can achieve a spreading width of up to 30m while still maintaining accuracy. The Terra-Variant automatically ‘senses’ the type of equipment fitted, and adjusts controls and responses accordingly.
Another German manufacturer, Zunhammer, provides state-of-the-art slurry injection equipment, tailor-made for the Terra-Variant. Two tank capacities – 18,000 or 21,000 litres – are offered, with the bigger tank being more popular. An immensely powerful 9,000-lit/min pump fills the big tank in about 2.5 minutes.
A variety of injection methods are offered, or the customer can supply their own. The most popular option is an 8.3 metre wide hydraulic-folding, disc-injection system. High-capacity, fast-filling, and the ability to cross rough terrain quickly put the Terra-Variant far in front with output capability.
Two Mercedes power units are offered – a six-cylinder 490hp, or the V8 612hp engine. Both offer plenty of power in reserve with refinement and surprisingly low fuel consumption. A power-shift transmission with 18 forward and six reverse gears ensures smooth operation.
Importantly, the Terra-Variant features front axle suspension with automatic levelling, this endows the machine with the capacity to travel faster over rough terrain, with less damage to the land. Four-wheel steering makes for great manoeuvrability with an excellent 5.5m turning circle.
The high specification includes a powerful hydraulic system with three-point linkage and a purpose-built, air-conditioned cabin with high emphasis on ease of control for the operator. The cabin tilts forward for easy maintenance access.
