Gurney Reeve & Co Ltd is a specialist designer and manufacturer of sweeping and material handling equipment through its Suton brand. Based in Norfolk, Suton has a long association with dairy farmers and has responded to requests from several farmers and developed a specialist sweeper for cow cubicles to add to its growing wide range of products.
The new Turbo-Clean is a powerful radial sweeper attachment manufactured in two standard models. The first is for compact loaders and the second is a dual A-frame or three-point linkage attachment for the front or rear of tractors.
The Turbo-Clean sweeper is both labour- and time-saving, doing away with the backbreaking work of manually sweeping and cleaning the edges of cubicles with the old-fashioned broom and scraper. The sweeper performs at a consistent level no matter how dirty the cubicles are, or which bedding is used. The overall cleanliness of the cubicles after using the Turbo-Clean sweeper helps maintain good cow health & hygiene.
Clean cubicle yards, udder and flank cleanliness all contribute towards prevention of high cell counts and outbreaks of mastitis, especially in high-yielding cows, all of which can effect yield and reduce margins. The Suton Turbo-Clean slews left and right for sweeping in sheds where maneuverability is an issue, sweeping off all the debris down to the matting into the main passage way.
The tractor-mounted linkage comes with a dual three-point linkage and A-frame system for quick and easy coupling and can be rear- or front-mounted. The Turbo-Clean is fitted with a brush arm with hydraulic lift, while it also slews to the left or right side of the tractor using the tractors hydraulics, or an optional electric-operated hydraulic pack. All functions are controlled from the tractor seat.
The compact loader version is attached via a quick-fit frame. It also features left and right slew, and lifting, and has an electric control pack as standard.
Both these machines give a high level of visibility when operating. The Turbo-Clean is a very economical way of cleaning cubicles and meets the growing needs of dairy farmers for optimum hygiene in their cow housing. The unit can lead to cash savings through changes to the daily work routine, reduced vet bills and the fact that just one prime mover is required for the whole process of cleaning cubicles.
The design of the sweeper lends itself to other uses, with kerb side and wall cleaning easily performed. A further development allows for an optional ‘weed wiper’ brush to be fitted, allowing the quick and easy clearing of vegetation around the farm or roadways.
