Sipcam: Fastnet sails ahead in herbicide race

Sipcam has launched Fastnet, a herbicide that offers excellent control of annual grass and broad-leaved weeds in winter wheat, winter and spring barley, winter rye, triticale, potatoes, combining peas, forage maize and sunflowers.

Fastnet, which is a pendimethalin-based product with proven efficacy against a very wide range of weeds and grasses, is the forerunner of other new Sipcam products that will enter the same market.

“The introduction this season of Fastnet marks the start of Sipcam’s strategy to develop an autumn cereal herbicide range,” the company’s James Ward said. “Fastnet provides entry to the pendimethalin market, which the company is looking to develop in the future with its encapsulated formulation, marketed successfully in Italy for a number of years.”

Mr Ward said encapsulation offered several advantages when compared to established products, including a reduction in the staining effects for which pendimethalin is well known.

“It also gives improved crop safety without losing any of its potency in weed control,” he said. “The company is in the process of developing broader spectrum mixtures for use in the same market, so while we are delighted to be able to bring UK farmers the benefit of Fastnet right now, we are very excited about future developments.”
